Walking on the ribbon

Project Description

The Municipality of Caltanissetta aims to upgrade the central area, and particularly “Garibaldi” Square and “Corso Umberto” Avenue.

Garibaldi Square is the most important central area in town, and the purpose of the local government is to rehabilitate the existing area for giving to the citizen a very comfortable site where they can walking and rest during the day.

The concept born from the idea of a very long red ribbon, which indicates a random geometry in the space of the square.

The ribbon is the link of the sites, it is functions is the connection of the: resting areas, the green sites, and the important monuments that are in the area.

The aim of the project is the creation of a big square, which includes the existing “Garibaldi” square and “Corso Umberto” Avenue. In this way some places, that at the moment are out of the historical centre, will be totally integrated in the new urban area.

Moreover, the project radically changes the traffic plan, for ensuring a maximum satisfaction for the pedestrians, who can walk safety on the square and can enjoy the artistic monuments and the green areas.
