Strait of Messina Bridge

Project Description

The Detailed Design  “Crossing of the Strait”,  is the development and evolution of the Preliminary Design.

Are confirmed in particular:

– Aerodynamic performance: wind “extreme” project of over 200 km / h;

– Resistance to seismic forces with ground acceleration (PGA) of 0.58 g;

– The structural performance of safety and service that provide very high traffic overloads (25,000 t) and rail (40,000 t);

– The design life of the bridge, equal to 200 years, and in particular the fatigue durability of the deck to be suspended.

The design variants have also led to the adoption of a new building site (operational areas, processes and logistics). The Hipro’s staff, in giving the answers to the requirements CIPE, has introduced important improvements that have resulted in:

– Revision of the docks (scaling of structures and processes at sea)

– Revision of rules for the storage of excavated material (removal of the temporary sites)

– Review of organizational arrangements (Redefinition of transport routes and the manner of execution of work)

Particular attention was paid to the management of excavated material and their disposal in areas specifically dedicated for recovery or final disposal, the so-called Sites Environmental Recovery, at which the activities were carried out geotechnical and hydraulic study and whose design occurred in conjunction with the hydraulic of rivers and streams closer.
