Mitigation of Hydro-geological risk in Gibellina

Project Description
The project was designed to remove risks from landslides in the past that have affected some city streets and numerous residential buildings. The interventions have been outlined according to the different degrees of risk, and in particular have been four different types of works:
1 trench draining water from the mountain side. The trench has a total height of 3.00 m and a total length of 110 m;
2 retaining walls. This choice was prompted by the need for decisive action that would allow the preservation of civil works closely in contact with the landslide area. The height of the walls is between 4 and 6 m, and foundations are formed by piles 600mm of diameters and 18 m long;
3 metal gabions. It was planned use of gabions parallelepiped metal box, made from wire mesh with double twist hexagonal mesh type 8 x 10;
4 stabilization of slopes with techniques of environmental engineering. In particular, it was a ditch up call, then the stabilization of the slope through the installation of a three-dimensional nylon geonet, which is placed a layer of topsoil.
The proposed interventions will generate a very low environmental impact, have also been used engineering techniques to minimize the deterioration of the surrounding environment.
